Local Student Art Showcased at 71st Annual USD 413 Art Exhibition at Chanute Gallery
The Chanute Art Gallery will host the 71st annual USD 413 Art Show, starting Saturday, April 13. The exhibit, running until May 4, will display works from Chanute Elementary, Royster Middle, and Chanute High School students.

Local Chanute Residents Seek Missing Pets After Cornerstone Fire
Chanute residents such as Tonya Counsil, Troy McCoy and others are searching for their lost pets following the Thursday fire at Cornerstone. Counsil's cat Max, which has black fur a little white speck on his chest with green eyes, has been missing since the fire.Visit here for more details.
Free Admission to Local Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum in March and April
The Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum in Chanute is offering free admission in March. This is made possible by The Monarch Cement Company and Walter and Karen Wulf. The museum's latest exhibits on the second floor are now open. These include an exhibit on Lizzie Le Blond, Bundu Dance Masks from West Africa, and a collection of textiles, costumes, and adornments.
Local College NCCC Stages Family-Friendly Charlie Brown Musical on March 22 and 23
Neosho County Community College is pleased to present "You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Revised)". This family-friendly musical will be performed on at 7 p.m. March 22 and 23 in the Sanders Auditorium at NCCC. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Local Family Rejoices as Two Cats Survive Cornerstone Apartment Fire, Third Cat Still Missing
A Chanute family is searching for one of its three cats but is also rejoicing that two of them survived the Thursday fire at Cornerstone Apartment Complex, 1520 W. 4th St. Chanute resident Troy McCoy, who lives near the apartment complex, spoke to The Tribune on Tuesday about how firefighters not only saved the lives of his daughter, Rylee, her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, but the lives of two of their beloved cats, Toot and Emo.Visit here for more details.
Maring Aquatic Center Changes Free Pool Entry Age to 3 and Under
Chanute city commissioners agreed to setting the free entry into the Maring Aquatic Center this summer for those aged 3 years and under. Previously, children aged 5 and under could get into the pool for free.Visit here for more details.
St. Paul's Knights of Columbus Council 760 Hosting Lenten Fish Fry Next Week
ST. PAUL — Knights of Columbus Council 760 – St. Paul, Walnut, Erie is hosting a Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, March 22. The menu includes delicious deep-fried fish, a variety of adult and child-friendly side dishes, drinks and desserts. It will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at the St. Francis Parish Hall, 1st and Lafayette, St. Paul. Chanute Art Gallery Hosts 30th Youth Art Month: Local Schools and Homeschooled Families Participate
The 30th annual Youth Art Month opened at the Chanute Art Gallery on March 5. Alicia Fickel started this tradition when she was an art teacher in the Chanute Public Schools and continues to organize the exhibit each year. The Chanute Art Gallery has been honored to host this exhibit every year. Chanute's St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Pub Crawl This Saturday: Don't Forget Your Green!
Don’t forget to wear green on Saturday. The St. Patrick’s Day celebration and pub crawl, among other events, is planned in Chanute for Saturday. Starting at 7 a.m. is the blarney breakfast at the Masonic Temple, 102 N. Highland. Adults cost $6 and children 12 and under cost $3. This event is sponsored by Cedar Lodge No. 103. Local Chanute Airport Secures $180K for Wildlife Barrier Fence Project
The Chanute Martin Johnson Airport will receive $180,000 from the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP), the governor announced earlier this week. Specifically, the funding obtained will be used for phase 2 of a fence project. Three local airports chosen for Kansas Airport Improvement Program funding
(KOAM) - Governor Laura Kelly has announced the selection of 58 projects at 37 airports to receive a total of $14.3 million through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP). Among the recipients are two local airports, one in Pittsburg and the other in Chanute.
