School board hires coach, raises lunch prices
At their Monday May 20 meeting, the Hayward Community School Board hired a new boys basketball coach, and raised lunch prices by 5 cents per meal for the next school year. Twenty-four members of the Hayward High School Class of 2024 who achieved the highest academic and co-curricular honors throughout their school career were honored at the annual Excellence in Education banquet at The Steakhouse & Lodge Wednesday, May 15. The Hayward Hurricanes girls soccer team shut out the Spooner Rails 3-0 on April 30 at Heidi Friermood Field to earn their second win of the season. On Wednesday, April 24, the Hayward Foundation for Educational Enrichment (HFEE) presented its annual Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year awards to two staff members in the Hayward Community School District. Bike to School is May 8 in Hayward
Hayward area school students are invited to join a nationwide movement on Wednesday, May 8, for National Bike to School Day. Participants are encouraged to meet in the Hayward Wesleyan Church parking lot at the intersection of Nyman Avenue and Highway 77 at 7:30 a.m. Cyclists will leave at 7:45 a.m. for Primary, Intermediate, Middle, and High Schools. Staff from the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation will be riding with students to the schools.
HHS boys golfers continue in action
The Hayward Hurricanes boys golf team hosted their 24-team junior varsity invitational Friday April 26 at Hayward Golf course. Hayward placed first in the small school division and Amery was second. Hayward schools to perform spring concerts
The Hayward Community Schools choral and band departments will present a series of spring concerts in early May. The high school choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday May 2 at Grace Lutheran Church on Greenwood Lane. (The high school auditorium is currently being renovated) The high school bands will perform at 7 p.m. Monday May 6 at the RJS Gymnasium at Hayward High School. The Hayward Middle School Bands will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday May 9 at the middle school gym, and the middle school choirs will perform at 7:30 that evening at the same location.

For the first time ever, the Hayward High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization has members who have qualified for national competition.
