East Duplin falls to North Lenoir in first round of playoffs
LA GRANGE — The number 30 seeded East Duplin Panthers fell to the number three seeded North Lenoir Hawks 7-1 in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A State Playoffs on May 7 in a game that was much closer than the score showed. FSU Graduate Student from Granite Falls Champions Educational Equity
Joshua Burns, a master’s student at Florida State University (FSU), is working towards an MS in Higher Education and plans to graduate in Spring 2024. Originally from Granite Falls, NC, Burns is dedicated to helping underrepresented students in higher education. His commitment stems from his background as a first-generation, lower-income student from a rural area. His time at FSU has been influenced by his participation in a joint Scholars Program with Florida A&M University (FAMU), which focuses on educational research and social justice.

New Scholarship Opportunity for Morganton Horticulture Students at WPCC
Appalachian Naturescapes of Morganton has partnered with the Western Piedmont Foundation to offer a new scholarship for horticulture students at Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC). Named the Appalachian Naturescapes Annual Scholarship, it provides $1,000 each year to WPCC horticulture students who are taking at least six credit hours and maintaining good academic standing.
