Fairview’s Guyton inducted into UWA Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society
LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama has announced 23 latest inductees into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society for the 2023-24 academic year. Leading the charge is the men’s soccer and football teams with five each. Women’s soccer and softball had two three, followed by two from baseball, women’s basketball and men’s cross country and one from women’s cross country. Celebrating Academic Excellence: UWA's Annual Commencement Honors Local Achievers
The University of West Alabama's Annual Commencement celebrates the achievements of students and faculty. During the ceremony, students who have maintained a quality-point ratio of 3.50 or higher receive the Baccalaureate Scholastic Honor. This includes summa cum laude for ratios of 3.90 or higher, magna cum laude for ratios between 3.75 and 3.89, and cum laude for those between 3.50 and 3.74.

Amaya Carswell, a sophomore nursing major at the University of West Alabama, has won the title of Miss Paragon 2024. She was the first runner-up in the 2023 Miss Paragon Pageant. Mahkayla Young switched her major from athletic training to integrated marketing communications (IMC) at the University of West Alabama (UWA). Initially surprising her parents, Young excelled in her new field, which was unfamiliar to them. Her efforts were acknowledged when she received the IMC Dymond Award at the UWA College of Liberal Arts Honors Day in April. This award is named after Dymond Hannon and is given to a senior IMC student who demonstrates excellence in the program.
