Local Artist Garland Farwell Begins Year-Long Residency at UWA’s Julia Tutwiler Library
Garland Farwell, a visual artist, has started a year-long artist-residency at the University of West Alabama’s Julia Tutwiler Library. The residency began with a folk-art exhibit featuring hex signs, a Pennsylvania Dutch symbol, viewed through a southern, rural, African American perspective. These symbols are thought to bring good luck or ward off misfortune, originating from the area's German ancestors.

Local Broadcasting Pioneer and Celebrated Artist to be Inducted into Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame
The Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame will induct Mary Olive Enslen Tinder and Janet Nolan on March 7 at the University of West Alabama. Tinder is known for her work in broadcasting, while Nolan is recognized for her contributions to the art world. The Hall of Fame moved to the University of West Alabama in 2021 and honors notable women from Alabama. The induction ceremony is open to the public and will be followed by a luncheon that requires reservations and a ticket.
