HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sturgis West girls basketball ends streak with win
The Sturgis West girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season as they beat Old Colony 37-22 on Monday. Jocelyn DeMedeiros would not be denied as she led the Navigators to victory with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Aubrey Flynn (eight points), Kennedy McCartin (six points), Jenna DeMedeiros (five points), and Ryley Mayo (three points) each contributed for Sturgis West.
Girls hockey falls 7-1 to Boston Latin Academy
( Jan. 7, 2024 ) Claire Misurelli scored her first goal of the season for the girls hockey team Saturday against Boston Latin Academyin a 7-1 home loss for the Whalers. After falling behind 4-0 in the first period, Nantucket got on the scoreboard three minutes into the second period when Emerson Pekarcik won a defensive zone face-off for the Whalers and Sophia Sullivan worked the puck around to Misurelli, who jumped around a defender, carried the puck over the blue line and ripped a wrist shot past the goalie.
Dennis-Yarmouth boys basketball snaps streak against Nantucket with second half comeback

Girls hoops lose at Wareham 44-18
( Dec. 21, 2023 ) The girls basketball team was held scoreless in the first quarter of Thursday’s road game against Wareham, a 44-18 loss for the Whalers. “They were a really good defensive team and really technical offensively,” coach Raf Osona said. “We need those games to learn how to deal with pressure. and that will make us better when we get to league play in the back end of our season. It’s all good. They’re strong and we understood that.”
Girls hoops earn first win
( Dec. 21, 2023 ) Missing several key players, the girls basketball team found a way to grind out a 32-26 win over Bristol- Plymouth on the road Tuesday for the Whalers’ first victory of the season. The win followed a 58-38 loss to Monomoy at home Friday.
HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Martha's Vineyard boys basketball trio helps them remain unbeaten
In a boys basketball battle between the two Cape Cod Islands teams, Martha's Vineyard beat Nantucket 58-47 on Sunday to remain unbeaten at 3-0. The trio of Josh Lake (19 points, nine rebounds), Nate Story (17 points) and Sam Zack (16 points) led the Vineyarders in the win. HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Upper Cape boys basketball off to unbeaten start
The Upper Cape boys basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after they defeated Sturgis West 69-46 on Thursday in its home opener. Tyler Kutil caught fire from deep as he hit five three-pointers and finished with 19 points. Chase Pierce added 18 points, and Sam Reynolds had 16 points. Shea Corbett dished out seven assists in his varsity start debut at point guard. Gregory Codjoe finished with 16 points for Sturgis West.
HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Lili Shanahan scores 21 in season opener
Lili Shanahan scored a game high 21 points to lead the Cape Cod Academy girls basketball team (1-0) to the 38-18 win over the Nantucket Whalers (0-1), to begin the 2023 season. Joining Shanahan in double figures for the Seahawks was Jenna Marsh, who finished with ten points, and Ally Moring added four points.
