Top team in the state leads the way: Cape and Islands high school girls lacrosse rankings
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament starts next week, and teams are looking to finish off the regular season strong. The unbeaten Nantucket girls lacrosse are the highest ranked team on the Cape Cod and Islands as the top seed in Division 4 in the latest MIAA latest power rankings.

Boys lax runs past Shrewsbury 14-4
( May 20, 2024 ) The boys lacrosse team outscored Shrewsbury 10-1 over the final three quarters of play Saturday on the way to a 14-4 win for the Whalers. Nantucket led 4-3 after the first quarter and scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. As they’ve done for much of the season, the Whalers wore down their opposing defense as the game went on and scored six more goals.
Girls lax beats D-Y 16-1 on senior day
( May 18, 2024 ) The girls lacrosse team raced out to an early lead Friday with seven goals in the first seven minutes of the game for the Whalers against Dennis-Yarmouth. Nantucket went on to score the first 12 goals of the game in the 16-1 victory.
Girls tennis loses to SJPII 4-1
( May 16, 2024 ) The girls tennis team lost consecutive matches for the first team this season with Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat on the road against St. John Paul II. Lauren Cutone won in three sets at third singles for the Whalers’ lone victory on the day. The senior narrowly lost the first set 7-6 before fighting back to take the second set 7-6 and win a tiebreaker 10-3 to decide the third set.
