USD 428 Great Bend hosting surplus sale this Friday
USD 428 Great Bend will be holding a surplus sale open to the public on Friday, Oct. 4, at the district’s former maintenance and transportation building, 2099 12th Street in Great Bend. The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature a variety of surplus items available for purchase.

'Letter to the Editor' - Solar panels in Barton Co.
A small group of landowners and a big solar company do not represent Barton County. We have a foreign solar company that came in under the radar and started throwing money at landowners. They didn’t have the common courtesy to meet and greet the county commissioners or the city council until they had a strong foothold in the county. They didn’t know what the Cheyenne Bottoms were and after finding out have done nothing to protect or support our treasure which would have been the logical and civilized endearing response to our community. They have remained silent and done nothing to expose their plan which probably doesn’t include any significant improvements for our county.

Barton Co. proclaims Oct. 6-12 as National 4-H Week; enrollment underway
The 4-H year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 each year. That made Tuesday's appearance by Michelle Beran with the Cottonwood District of K-State Research and Extension before the Barton County Commission a recruitment call. Beran said a goal for the upcoming year is to get more kids into the program.
Great Bend educators to serve on state-wide technology board
Two educators from Great Bend Public Schools have been selected to serve on the prestigious board of the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education, known as MACE. Lindsay Mazouch and Leah Yancey, both Instructional Technology Coaches and Media Specialists for USD 428 serving at Lincoln Elementary and Riley Elementary, began their two-year terms on the MACE Board of Directors in July 2024.
