Gift from Mull family enhances Barton CC's fine arts & ag program
The Keith and Marian Mull family were long-time supporters and donors of Barton Community College and the Barton Foundation, with gifts dating back 30 years, and a recent gift of significance made in memory of the Mulls is being used to help two very different but essential areas of the College.
Mull Family's Latest Donation to Enhance Barton College's Arts and Ag Programs
The Keith and Marian Mull family, long-time supporters of Barton Community College, have donated again to the college's fine arts and agriculture programs. This donation, in memory of Keith and Marian Mull, continues their three-decade legacy of support, targeting the fine arts department and the new Ag and Transportation Complex, which will open in Fall 2024.
Great Bend High School commencement this Sunday, 218 grads
Great Bend High School will host the 137th Commencement Ceremony celebrating the graduating class of 2024 on Sunday, May 12 at 5 pm. The event will be held at Great Bend High School’s Memorial Stadium and live-streamed on the GBHS Media Channel (@gbhsmedia6763) on YouTube. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the GBHS gymnasium, entrance at 2027 Morton St.

Great Bend's Nicholson receives scholarship from Wheatland Electric
Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced that Addy Nicholson, senior at Great Bend High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship Wednesday, April 24, at WEC’s annual meeting in Great Bend, Kan. Each year, WEC awards a $1,000 scholarship to one high school senior from each of the thirteen high schools in WEC’s service territory, as well as one at-large scholarship for a student who does not attend one of these schools but has a parent or guardian that is a WEC member.

Ohnmacht breaks 31-year-old GBHS record at Salina meet
A third Great Bend High School track and field record fell just five days after the Lady Panthers set a pair of records Monday in Topeka. Friday in Salina, freshman Cooper Ohnmacht became just the second Kansas triple jumper to surpass 46 feet this year in Kansas. His winning mark of 46-5-5 broke a 31-year-old GBHS record by 2.5 inches.
Great Bend High School offering new cybersecurity class
Recent attacks on computer networks affecting the Kansas Office of Judicial Administration and hospitals in Wichita have highlighted the importance of good cybersecurity. Great Bend High School students will now have the opportunity to dip their toes into the growing field with a new class offered at the school. Assistant Principal Kip Wilson presented details to the USD 428 Board of Education Monday night.

We have four young people joining our team this summer who will be providing focused educational opportunities through several partners.
Ribbon cut at Bright Beginnings childcare facility in Great Bend
Nine months ago, Advancing Childcare Barton County broke ground on a new 6,500-square-foot childcare facility in Great Bend. Planning for the project began long before that. Thursday morning, all the hard work at and behind the scenes paid off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at Bright Beginnings. Larned State Correctional & BCC hold learning celebration
Barton Community College and Larned State Correctional Facility (LSCF) honored the achievements of LSCF residents at their annual learning celebration on April 10. Graduates were awarded their associate degree, high school diploma, or workforce training certificates in welding technology, occupational safety and health (OSHA), and business management and leadership. A total of 104 certificates, industry certifications, and diplomas were awarded this year.
