* In addition to two interceptions and two lost fumbles, Texas Tech went 1-of-5 on fourth down attempts against Washington State. Failure on fourth down is, of course, practically identical to losing a fumble. The ball goes over to the opponent, the vast majority of the time right around the line of scrimmage. Because you didn't punt the ball away, you didn't affect field position. That is a turnover. Thus, the Red Raiders committed eight turnovers against Washington State, while getting only two of their own (Wazzu also failed to convert once on fourth down). What's more, only one of those turnovers--a Cougar stripping the ball away from Josh Kelly--could be credited to Washington State. The remainder were errors by players and coach Joey McGuire.
