Who picked up at-large entries to the Ohio high school track and field state meet?
Once all 12 high school regional track and field meets are completed in Ohio, the process of determining at-large entries to the state meet begins. The top four finishers in each event gain automatic spots in the state meet, which will take place Thursday through Saturday at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium. In addition, the next two best performances in each event statewide gain spots in Dayton. Heat sheets for the state meet were posted Sunday. School districts now required to have cell phone policies
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine recently signed a bipartisan bill regarding cell phones in the classroom. H.B. 250 originally focused on high school graduates obtaining a military seal. Now it also addresses cell phone policies in schools. The legislation unanimously passed in the Ohio General Assembly on May 8. Each school board will be required to adopt a cell phone policy by July, 2025. Local school districts are currently reviewing their own policies. Toledo Public Schools does not currently have a policy in place specifically related to the use of cell phones in schools, James Gant, deputy superintendent, said in a statement.
Educators and Librarians could face felony charges under proposed Ohio House Bill
Columbus OH -Ohio House Bill 556, introduced by Republican State Rep. Adam Mathews, is causing a stir among educators and library organizations due to its ambiguous language regarding 'obscene material' and 'obscene performances.' The bill proposes criminal charges for teachers and school librarians who distribute or create such materials but fails to clearly define what constitutes 'obscenity.'
Ohio lawmakers want 'apples to apples' comparison between public and private schools
The bill would require that voucher students at private schools take the same state assessments as public school students. The bill would also require private schools with voucher students to account for the public money they receive separately from their other funds and require the schools to have state report cards like public schools do.
