25 high school students participate in Kent Police Teen Academy
Twenty-five high school students from Kent participated in the three-day Kent Police Department Teen Academy. They learned about different divisions in the department including detectives, traffic, special operations, SWAT and the Civil Disturbance Unit, according to a Kent Police social media post. The academy was June 25-27 at the Kent Police and Fire Training Center, 24523 116th Ave. SE.

Superintendent Banner Receives Patriotic Employer Award
Clover Park School District Superintendent Ron Banner received the Patriotic Employer Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on June 20. ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between service members and their civilian employers. The ESGR recognizes employers that are nominated by service members for the exceptional support provided to them and their families with this honorable award. Superintendent Banner was nominated by the Director of Equity and Community Engagement, Grant Twyman for his outstanding dedication to active duty and veteran CPSD staff and their families.
BIPOC students thrive at Rainier Scholars
It was the perfect day for a ribbon cutting as families and students gathered in the early summer sunshine on June 20 to welcome Rainier Scholars to University Place. Located in James Center at 1614 S. Mildred St., Suite C, the space hadsat empty for quite a long time and was transformed into a brand new and vibrant learning center dedicated to building academic success and leadership for underrepresented students of color.
