TAKOMA PARK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Takoma Park’s Independence Day Parade had an unlikely guest.

“Let’s just acknowledge the elephant in the room — or maybe I should say the horse that ran down the street in the room,” the announcer said in the parade’s live stream on Facebook.

Takoma Park Police said in a reply Tuesday afternoon that a horse, that was part of the parade procession, “unexpectedly began running in the opposite direction of the parade route.”

Police said that the horse grazed one person before its handler “promptly managed” the situation on Elm Avenue.

The person who was grazed was not injured and did not ask for any treatment.
