Details about April's fatal shooting on Ox Bow Road have been released: Prosecutors say a father shot his son in self defense.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7000 block of Ox Bow Road in northeast Tallahassee on April 26 to conduct a "death investigation" after a man was found dead, but many other details were withheld.

On Tuesday evening, Assistant State Attorney Sarah Dugan told the Tallahassee Democrat what happened:

A father had shot his son after the son threatened his mother and charged at his father with a knife. Because the shooting was deemed self defense, Dugan said no charges were brought and the case is closed.

Shortly after the shooting, LCSO spokesperson Shonda Knight said only that the incident involved two men and was "domestic in nature."

This incident is one in a slew of shootings throughout the year. So far in 2024, 15 people have died and 30 people have been injured in 38 serious shootings in the capital city and county, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
