    And 2024’s ‘Marquee Award’ Winners are …

    High schools in Middlesex and Somerset counties won first place “Marquee Awards” for 2024 musical productions in 17 categories at URSB Carteret Performing Arts & Events Center’s recent red-carpet event.

    CARTERET, NJ — High schools in Middlesex and Somerset counties, and their many talented students, have won first place “Marquee Awards” for 2024 musical productions in 17 categories at URSB Carteret Performing Arts & Events Center’s recent red-carpet event.

    Woodbridge High School’s production of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” won the first place Marquee Award for best overall stage production. Woodbridge High also won first place awards for best chorus, best costumes, and best lighting.

    Multiple awards also went to high schools in Edison, Highland Park and Piscataway in Middlesex County, and to Hillsborough High School in Somerset County, with individual awards going to many other schools. A complete list is below.

    Carteret’s first-annual 2024 Marquee Award ceremony – a Tony Award-style event – celebrates musical theater talent for high school students in the two counties. The event was held on Wednesday, May 15th, at the URSB Carteret Performing Arts & Events Center . Watch the entire ceremony here:

    Broadway performer Jelani Remy hosted the ceremony. A New Jersey native from Cedar Grove, Remy shot to fame as Simba in Disney’s “The Lion King.” He currently appears on Broadway in “Back to the Future: The Musical” as Goldie Wilson/Marvin Berry.
