WEST ORANGE, NJ — The township announced that the final phase of road improvements will begin Monday, August 26, on Conforti Avenue and Valley Way -- weather permitting. The contractor is Reggio Construction, Inc., of Palisades Park, NJ. On the first day, workers will be milling from Eagle Rock Avenue toward the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Carteret Street. Resurfacing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 from Eagle Rock Avenue ending around Marshall Street. Wednesday, August 28, will be Conforti Avenue from Marshall Street to the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Carteret Street.
On August 29 and August 30, speed tables will be re-installed along Conforti Avenue from Eagle Rock Avenue to Hooper Avenue.
Residents using their vehicles need to move them to another street by 7:00 a.m. to avoid delays, and no parking will be allowed on the street during road work. The street will be closed until paving is finished, and the surface has cooled. Officials recommend being careful when going into driveways as the curb height will be several inches higher than normal until paving is completed. They also said that recycling containers must be out by 6:00 a.m. if roadwork is in progress, so they can be emptied by 7:00 a.m.
Regarding Valley Way, the engineering department reported, “The first phase of the work will consist of some new curbs and sidewalks only where needed. This phase will take about one week to complete. The street will then be milled and resurfaced, and you will be notified prior to that phase.”
Cars will need to be moved on Saturdays as well as weekdays because road work will be done on Saturday.
Please tell the workers if you have a heated driveway or an electric dog fence.
Road improvements on Maple Street, beginning on September 2, will consist of new curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons and drainage improvements. The first phase is expected to take two weeks.
The engineering department stated, “The Township’s contractor will [put] topsoil and seed [on] disturbed areas of your front lawn adjacent to the areas where the curb has been repaired. You will be responsible for watering this area daily until a good stand of turf is established. If you have a sprinkler system, please mark your sprinkler heads prior to the start of construction.”
West Orange thanks residents for their patience during construction. For additional information, call the Engineering Department (973) 325-4160.
