Welcome back to a Labor Day edition of the Red Bank Beat! Can you believe Labor Day is upon us already? Why is it that summer always goes so quickly and winter always goes so slowly?

At least that’s how it seems to me. In any event, I have some exciting news about a brand new restaurant that a lot of folks have been waiting for.

    Are you ready? Here goes!

    INTRODUCING CATEZZA –
    THE BROADWALK’S NEWEST RESTAURANT

It’s been close to a year since Catch 19, one of the restaurants in the Esperto Hospitality restaurant group (they also own Centrada) closed down for renovations. At the time, we didn’t know what exactly what type of restaurant concept would emerge, but as time went on we learned that the new restaurant would be an upscale casual Italian restaurant.

So, let’s give a real Red Bank welcome to Catezza Italian Kitchen & Bar, now occupying the former Catch 19 space at 19 Broad Street! Kyle Richardson, Esperto’s Director of Guest Relations and Marketing, gave my staff and I a sneak preview of the new restaurant, and it is absolutely gorgeous! They’re got an authentic old Hollywood vibe going on inside, and they’re even planning to show old Hollywood movies on the big screen at the main bar!

As for the menu, which you can see here , Catezza is offering up some great pizza and pasta dishes, interesting appetizers and some top-level entrees.

As for drinks, they actually have two bars – one on each level – but they are offering a full bar with numerous specialty cocktails, and not one, not two, but three types of special negronis! (I know someone back home who’s going to be very excited about that). You can see their spirits, wine and beer menu here.

Catezza had its soft opening on Thursday, August 29, and their normal hours will be 4-10 PM on Sundays through Thursdays and 4-11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. I hope to be there next weekend with some out-of-town guests, so I’ll give you the full report afterwards. (Maybe I should become a food critic as my next career!)

For reservations, you can call them at 732-633-0003, email them at info@catezzarestaurant.com or find them on Facebook and Instagram. By the way, if you’re curious about the name (I was), it’s short for the Italian word “delicatezza” which means delicacy. So there you have it. As they say in Italy, mangia bene!

COMING SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH – 2 GREAT EVENTS

A week from Saturday, September 7th, we have two great events happening at the same time in downtown Red Bank. Fortunately, you don’t have to choose, as you can do both (just not at the same time).

First off, we are proud to co-sponsor the return of Dog Days with the Red Bank Animal Welfare Committee and with Fins & Feathers! This year, Dog Days will be held at Riverside Gardens Park, and it runs from Noon to 4 on September 7th.

Dog Days is a K9 pawty for you and your furry ones! We’ll have live music from The Wag (who else would we have at an event like this?) as well as singer Marc Del Guidice.

We’ll also have lots of vendors, who will give away prizes, and for those of you who don’t have dogs yet, but want to, there will be doggies there for you to adopt, courtesy of the Louie’s Legacy bus. We’ll also have a luring game track for your dogs to play on.

Also, on Saturday, September 7, Record Riots returns to Mechanic Street! Record Riots is a great record fair, with all genres of records available for purchase. Record Riots first came to downtown Red Bank back in May, and it was a smash success!

People loved it so much that they wanted to come back for another show in the Fall. Record Riots, which will have 40 tables of records from which to choose, runs from 10 AM to 5 PM on Mechanic Street on September 7th. Admission is free.

Check them out before or after Dog Days – you’ll be glad you did!

MORE GREAT RIVERCENTER EVENTS COMING LATER IN SEPTEMBER

September is shaping up to be a super busy month for us here in downtown Red Bank, as we’re bringing back an amazing event from last year, along with a brand-new event. Here are the deets:

Our second annual Oktoberfest is returning to the west side on Saturday, September 21st from 1 – 5 PM. It will be held in the same location as last year, which is the Edmund Wilson Plaza between our two largest sponsors, Triumph Brewing and the Two River Theater.

As of this writing, we have more than a dozen breweries and distilleries confirmed, but we’re signing up more all the time! We’ll also have live music, some great craft vendors courtesy of Fresh Markets, food available for purchase, including some German food (of course), and we’re bringing back the kids zone which was so popular last year.

The event itself is free to attend, but like last year’s Oktoberfest, but if want to sample the beers, wines and spirits, you can buy a wristband for unlimited sampling for $45 online before the event, or $55 at the door.

Or, you can purchase an Oktoberfest 12-pack, which will allow you to sample 12 beers, for $25 in advance or $35 the day of the event.

Either way, Oktoberfest is a great way to sample some of Monmouth County’s finest brewers and distillers in a super-fun setting! You can purchase wristbands here . Don’t forget to mark the date on your calendar and tell your friends!

    What's it Worth?

The following Saturday, September 28, we are launching a brand new event called What’s It Worth?

In conjunction with the Galleria and Nancy’s Fancy Antiques and Vintage, What’s It Worth will allow you to discover the value of your antique and vintage treasures while enjoying coffee, dessert, and a classic car show at The Galleria! Again, admission is free, but if you are interested in having items appraised, tickets are available here https://events.humanitix.com/what-s-it-worth/tickets.

A $30 advance ticket gets you two items appraised, along with coffee and dessert, and it’s $35 the day of the event. For seniors 65 and over, tickets are $25 in advance. If you’d like to have three items appraised, then the price is $40 with senior tickets going for $35.

And all of those tickets come with complimentary coffee and dessert. You can read more details about the event on our website here . It should be a super-fun day on the westside of downtown Red Bank!

WARM WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY WITH THE ELKS CLUB

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month and our friends at the Red Bank Elks have partnered with the Red Bank Public Library to celebrate!

On Saturday, Setpember 7th, the Elks are inviting you to stop by the Library from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM for crafts and activities, snacks, and a photo booth!

In addition to the fun at the Library, the Elks are giving back to the community, providing free jackets, backpacks, and school supplies to those in need.

For more information, please email cmannornj@gmail.com In case you’re new to the area, the Library is located at 84 West Front Street.
