TAZEWELL, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A Tazewell County inmate has incurred additional charges after law enforcement discovered controlled substances which had apparently been hidden inside the body of the inmate.

The Tazewell County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office reports that, in the late-night hours of Thursday, August 1, 2024, Deputy Logan Moore of the sheriff’s office recovered controlled substances including heroin and fentanyl from an unidentified suspect.

Additional charges are reported to have emerged upon the discovery of narcotics by officers on the inmate’s person. These substances are said to have been contained in an undisclosed part of the body of the suspect.

The Tazewell County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office remarked of the incident, “Deputy Moore recovered heroin and fentanyl from the suspect upon arrival at the jail and during his intake process. These narcotics were ‘hidden’ inside his body. Now this suspect faces multiple additional felony charges.”

Among the charges in question are Possession of a Controlled Substance and Introduction of a Controlled Substance into the Jail.

The sheriff’s office also extended its gratitude to Hitachi Energy Bland on Friday for their contribution of “Stop the Bleed” training kits, resources which the department says were much needed, declaring, “we appreciate your support of our law enforcement community!”
