Coming soon: Miami's famous Vicky Bakery to open first Treasure Coast location

Vicky Bakery is coming to the Treasure Coast.

The Cuban bakery chain will open its first Treasure Coast location in Port St. Lucie as part of the company's mission to expand throughout Florida before going nationwide, according to spokesperson Samantha Sanchez.

Vicky Bakery will open sometime in October or November at 1234 S.W. Gatlin Blvd , as a standalone store next to the developing Gatlin Pointe Plaza.

What is Vicky Bakery?

Vicky Bakery owners and couple Antonio and Gelasia Cao opened the first location in 1972.

The couple met while working at La Vencedora, a bakery in Cuba, before fleeing to the United States as political exiles and settling in Miami. They saved up to buy Vicky Bakery, a small bakery in Hialeah named after the original owner's daughter.

Since then, Vicky Bakery has remained a family business and opened 25 locations throughout Florida, with seven locations coming soon.

In 2015, Cao's grandson Tony Cao and his friend Carlos De Varona entered into a licensing agreement with his family, Tony gave up his stake in Vicky Bakery, bought out his seven locations and opened Cao Bakery & Cafe, serving up Cuban cuisine and American traditions for customers, The Miami Herald reported.

Vicky Bakery is famous for its croquetas, pastelitos, flan, bread pudding and señoritas, a puff pastry filled with creamy custard.
