The Teague Lady Lions begin their quest for the state tournament Friday in Axtell.

Teague (21-8) faces Little River Academy in a best-of-three bi-district playoff series, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The second game will follow after the completion of the first game with a third game to follow at 1 p.m. Saturday in Axtell if necessary.

    TEAGUE 13, ELKHART 8

The Lady Lions closed out the regular season with a 13-8 victory at Elkhart last Friday. Reese Stacks (3-4, BB, 2 2B, 6 RBI) and Keely Mathis (3-4, 2 BB, 2B) led Teague at the plate.

Rylee Stacks (2-3, BB, HBP, 2B, RBI) also had multiple hits, while Aubrey Cearley (1-5, 2 RBI), Andrea James (1-4, BB, RBI), Addison Jones (1-3, 2 BB, RBI) and Laynee Morrow (1-5) also contributed. Kaylee Cuevas went to the plate five times, walking four of those and being hit by a pitch on the other.

    FRANKLIN 14, TEAGUE 0

Quiet bats and nine errors spelled defeat for Teague in a 14-0 loss to Franklin Tuesday evening in Teague. With the win, Franklin clinched the 20-3A title, and Teague clinched second place.

Franklin pitcher Reese Cottrell limited Teague to three hits and walked three while striking out eight. Cottrell also received plenty of run support as her team scored at least one run in each inning, including seven in the top of the fifth.

Keely Mathis (2-3) led Teague at the plate. Kaylee Cuevas (1-1, 2 BB, 2B) also contributed.

    TEAGUE 6, BUFFALO 2

Cuevas struck out 15 batters as the Lady Lions handled Buffalo, 6-2, Monday evening in Teague. Cuevas also earned walks on all four of her plate appearances, including three intentional.

The Lady Bison used four walks and an error to score twice in the top of the third. But Cate Satterwhite hit a sacrifice fly to send a run across the plate for Teague in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Lions took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Mathis hit an RBI single and scored on a passed ball, while Reese Stacks hit a two-run single, and Addison Jones drew a bases-loaded walk.

Four Teague players recorded two hits. They were Mathis (2-4, 2B, RBI), Stacks (2-4, 2 RBI), Laynee Morrow (2-4) and Audrey Cearley (2-3).

    TEAGUE 21, WESTWOOD 4

The Lady Lions overcame a 3-0 deficit and pounded Westwood, 21-4, on April 12, in Palestine. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

After falling behind 3-0 after one inning of play, Teague scored a run in the top of the second and four in the top of the third to seize a 5-3 lead.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the third, the Lady Lions put up 11 runs in the top of the fourth. Teague used tworun singles from Jones and Mathis, a two-run double from Stacks, RBI singles from Satterwhite and Andrea James, and five walks and three passed balls to build a commanding 16-4 advantage.

The Lady Lions added five more runs in the top of the fifth. Teague also took advantage of 14 walks in the victory.

Satterwhite (3-4, BB, 2 BB, 3 RBI) led all batters, while James (2-2, 3 BB, RBI), Mathis (2-4, BB, 3 RBI) and Stacks (2-3, BB, 2B, 3 RBI) also had multiple hits. Cuevas (1-1, 4 BB), Jones (1-2, BB, RBI) and Morrow (1-5, RBI) also contributed.

James pitched the first inning before Cuevas came in relief in the second. The senior struck out 10 batters.
