Three Teague ISD school board members took their oath of office during the Tuesday, May 21, TISD school board meeting. Debra Lawrence and Brian Bowers were not present for the meeting.

Vicki Dimiceli - Place 5, Jason Hullum - Place 6, and Justin Lee - Place 7 took their oath of office to remain on the TISD school board. They had no opponents so there was no election.

Officers on the board will remain the same as President Jeff Gonzals, Vice President Debra Lawrence, and Secretary Lovie Whyte.

Parent Brandon Lehrmann addressed the board concerning his daughter’s grades.

According to Lehrman, although she had a 90 average in Algebra, she was assigned to attend five bootcamp days.

She missed one of the bootcamps days due to extra-curricular activities.

Lehrmann claims that his daughter received a zero in the gradebook while others who missed the same day received a 100, which brought her average down.

Lehrmann noted that his daughter is now passing, but the zero remains in the gradebook.

Lehrmann read a letter on TISD letterhead, stating that students would not be receiving grades from the mandatory boot camps.

Lehrmann had spoken with Teague High School Principal Monte Shields as well as TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner, but has not got the issue resolved, which is why he brought it to the attention of the board.

Gonzales told Lehrmann that the board would look into this issue and that Skinner would get back to him.

The board approved paying the current bills totaling $271,311.86.

The Freestone Central Appraisal District preliminary property value was presented by Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Emily Evans. The report shows an estimated 18.83% decrease.

The 2023 certified value for TISD was 1,016,437,022. The 2024 preliminary estimated value for TISD is 825,042,840, which is a difference of 191,394,182. The final values will be certified by July 25.

Goodwin Lasiter Strong (GLS) was selected as the lead engineer to provide design review and construction administration for the lighting retrofit project. The board delegated authority to Skinner to negotiate and execute the final contract.

Enrollment at Teague ISD is 1,230 students.

After the executive session, the board accepted resignations from Bethany Gilbert, Carrie Mizell, Rebecca Powell, and Teresa Olvera. The board approved the employment of Milton Algood and Mikel Collins.
