BOISE, Idaho – Oswald Charles Reyna, a 67-year-old resident of Nampa, Idaho, has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison following his conviction for distributing methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down after Reyna, who has a long history of drug trafficking, pleaded guilty to his fifth drug trafficking offense earlier this year.

According to court records, Reyna was involved in multiple drug transactions in the summer of 2023. On July 31, August 7, and August 21, 2023, Reyna sold methamphetamine from his home in Nampa. The investigation took a decisive turn on August 26, 2023, when police officers in Fruitland, Idaho, encountered Reyna during a suspected drug deal involving another individual and a juvenile at 2:00 a.m. A drug-detecting K9 alerted officers to the presence of controlled substances in Reyna’s vehicle, leading to a search that uncovered approximately five ounces of methamphetamine.

Reyna's criminal history spans 26 years, with multiple convictions for drug trafficking. He pleaded guilty to this latest offense on May 9, 2024.

“Methamphetamine traffickers like Mr. Reyna prey on our communities for their own gain,” said David F. Reames, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Seattle Field Division. “DEA and our partners at the Nampa Police, the Fruitland Police, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office work hard to stop methamphetamine traffickers and ensure they are held accountable for their actions. Our community is a little safer because of Mr. Reyna’s sentence in this case.”

Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff also praised the collaborative effort that led to Reyna's conviction, stating, “I’m proud of the teamwork that went into this investigation to put a career criminal behind bars. We all need to take a stand and speak up when we see unlawful activity happening. We need to let these criminals know that their illegal activity has no business in our community.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Reyna to pay a $500 fine and serve four years of supervised release following his incarceration. The judge also entered a final order of forfeiture for Reyna’s Nampa home, which he used to facilitate his drug deals.

U.S. Attorney Hurwit commended the dedicated work of the DEA, the Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, and the Fruitland Police Department, which culminated in Reyna's charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse prosecuted the case.
