Teen struck by fire department truck has died

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — 3rd Update: The Prairieton Fire Department has released a statement to the family of 17-year-old who died after being hit by a fire department truck Wednesday.
2nd Update : The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the 17-year-old male who was flown to Indianapolis after being hit by a pickup truck belonging to the Prairieton Fire Department has died.
In a post to Facebook , the sheriff’s office identified the boy as Tyler Wilson, of Vigo County.
According to the Sheriff’s office, investigators believe that the brushfire was started by Wilson.
VCSO Chief of Operations Derek Fell said no charges will be filed in the incident.
Update : A 17-year-old boy was flown from the scene of a brush fire in Terre Haute after being struck by a Prairieton Fire Department pick-up truck.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday near a residence on S. Paddock Place. Initially a brush fire call, as deputies were on the way, fire personnel requested EMS and lifeline to the scene.
VCSO Chief of Operations Derek Fell said when deputies got to the scene they learned a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 registered to the Prairieton/Prairie Creek Fire Department had struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was a 17-year-old male, who’s identity is not being released. The firefighter who was driving the truck was tested for drugs and alcohol, Chief Fell said the preliminary results came back negative.
The boy who was injured was treated on scene by EMS before being flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter.
Chief Fell said the identity of the firefighter is not being released at this time, and could not provide an updated status of the injured boy.
Detectives and accident reconstruction teams investigated the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Original : Emergency crews with the Prairieton Fire Department went to a fire in the area of 12000 S. Paddock Place in southern Vigo County Wednesday night.
“We were responding to hay bales that were on fire and one of our apparatus was involved in a motor vehicle collision. At this time, until further investigation, we are not at liberty to give anymore information,” said Prairieton Fire Department Deputy Chief Scott Dean.
Our crew on the scene says an air ambulance did land at the location. They also observed several emergency vehicles at the scene and saw smoke and flames.
