The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department :

    • On July 10, a 62-year-old woman reported graffiti on the Sand Shoals Bridge.

    A 46-year-old woman is a suspect.

Lynch Township officials were contacted for an estimate of the cost to cover up the graffiti.

    • On July 5, a 51-year-old woman reported that she was supposed to receive a check from the Texas County clerk’s office at her Junction Street address in Raymondville.

The woman told a deputy she hadn’t received the check but had gotten a call from the West Plains Bank branch in Houston indicating a 70-year-old man had attempted to deposit the check into his account on July 3. Staff at the bank provided video that showed a vehicle pull up to the drive-through facility with three men inside, one age 43, another age 33 and the man with the account.

Probable cause statements were sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against the men.

    • On July 11, a 34-year-old woman reported that a man had pointed a gun at her while she was completing her mail route on Curran Road at Willow Springs.

The woman told an investigating officer that in the past, the man had been rude and aggressive toward her and other mail carriers, and that he had aimed a gun at her through a window of his home.

Contact was made with the man, 64, and he denied pointing a gun at the woman, and said he had been cleaning a pistol in direct view of the window.

The woman was contacted and changed her story, saying the man hadn’t pointed a gun at her but had one in his hand while looking through the window.
