A mother and father in Texas have an incredibly rare story to tell. Jonathan Sandhu and his wife, Mercedes, are now parents to four identical quadruplets! And after the babies spent three months in the NICU, they were finally able to go home.

    A Very Rare Pregnancy

Mercedes conceived their quadruplets naturally. This type of pregnancy, which is called a monochorionic pregnancy, is incredibly rare because all four babies share one placenta.

Johnathan discussed the potential risks of sharing one placenta while talking to Good Morning America .

“With high-order multiples, all sharing one placenta, they were at elevated risks for nearly all the bad things that can accompany premature infants,” he said.

That’s right; in addition to being the rarest quadruplets ever, these four girls—named Hannah Grace, Lucy Marie, Rebecca Clair, and Petra Anne—were also born prematurely. Mercedes delivered her daughters on May 1st when she was 29 weeks and three days pregnant.

Quadruplets Fought A Long Battle In The NICU

Although these quadruplets were born on the same day, they did not get to go home together. Hannah and Petra were the first to leave the hospital on July 12th, after a two-month stay in the NICU. Lucy went home one week later, and Rebecca joined her sisters after a total of three months.

The quadruplets were not Jonathan and Mercedes’ first children. The couple is also parents to sons Luke, 4, and Aaron, nearly 2, and the boys love their new sisters.

While having six children can be challenging enough, having six children under 5 is a truly impressive feat. However, sleep deprivation is not keeping the Sanhus down.

“The best part has been watching our boys welcome their baby sisters,” Johnathan told the publication. “…They are obsessed with the girls. Seeing our little family come together has been the most heartwarming moment of our lives.”

Best wishes to this incredibly adorable family!
