WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Two Wichita Falls teens could face the death penalty after their indictments for capital murder in a May robbery-shooting.

Traquan Eiland, now 18, was 17 at the time of the shooting, and Cortez Banks, 18, are each indicted by a Wichita County grand jury for capital murder, four counts of aggravated robbery, and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

They are being held on bonds totaling more than $1.6 million each.

Jourdyn Jones, 23, was shot twice during the attempted robbery near the intersection of Wichita Street and Calhoun Street. Jones was found in the grass with his sister, who was trying to stop the bleeding. He suffered two gunshot wounds, one grazing his chest and the other going into his groin.

The four victims told officers they had left their apartment to go to a store when two black males in black hoodies and ski masks pulled out handguns, and one told them to give them everything they had.

The victims said Jones jumped forward in an attempt to stop the robbery and tried to grab the gun. The suspect then fired two rounds into Jones.

One of the victims recognized the voice of one of the suspects as a former schoolmate, Eiland.

Police learned another shooting had taken place just a few hours before this one, and witnesses said Eiland and another male were involved. Police also learned the two worked together at Jersey Mike’s.

They said Eiland told them Banks pulled the gun and fired the fatal shots.
