UPDATE: Woman identified in shooting death off Gordon Highway in Augusta

Augusta authorities are investigating a shooting death in an area between Gordon Highway and Doug Barnard Parkway over the weekend.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said via news release that authorities responded to the 200 block of Dan Bowles Road on Saturday. A woman's body was found lying in the road with at least one gunshot wound. She was later identified as Monique Hawes, 53, of Augusta

Hawes was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled.
