    It's Labor Day weekend in North Jersey! Make plans with our 2024 list of things to do

    As August comes to a close, so do many outdoor concert series. But, you can still catch several shows throughout the area this weekend - Total Soul in Little Falls, Mushmouth in Belleville, Jazz Under the Stars in Englewood, the Kootz in Fair Lawn and Rockaway, Fillet of Soul in Hackensack and the Big Ones in Park Ridge (with fireworks!). Plus, the Puerto Rock Steady festival returns to Paterson with Method Man, Redman and more.

    Live music will play a big part in the fun at a food truck and vendor festival in Clifton, which will include Swingman and the Misfit Mutts. Speaking of festivals, the annual Pompton Day is this weekend in Pompton Lakes. And if you want your music indoors, Hed P.E. is headlining in Clifton.

    In addition, baseball fans can check out the Sussex County Miners all weekend long.

    North Jersey weather forecast for Aug. 29-Sept. 1

    According to the National Weather Service:

    • Thursday night: Partly cloudy with a low in the low 60s and slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.
    • Friday : Mostly sunny with a high in the mid-70s and a slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy at night with a low in the mid-60s.
    • Saturday : Partly sunny with a 50 percent chance of showers and a high around 80. The chance of showers continues into the night, but otherwise mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 60s.
    • Sunday: Partly sunny with a high in the low 80s and a chance of afternoon and evening showers. Partly cloudy at night with a low in the mid-60s.
    • Labor Day: Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 70s. Mostly clear at night with a low in the mid-50s

    Total Soul concert in Little Falls

    With hundreds of songs in its repertoire, Total Soul brings its choreography, singers, horns and grooving rhythm section to Little Falls for the final show of the weekly Summer Concert Series & Marketplace on Thursday.

    Members include bandleader Jeff Dieterelem; Billy Robinson, William Paterson University student Emily Lucas, David Lucas, Marika Reid, Kiminey Thomas and Yameil Nunez on vocals; Miho Nobuzane on keyboards; Fairleigh Dickinson grad Jerry Romano on trumpet; David Lackner on saxophone and keyboards; Gary Weiss on drums; Keith Yaun on guitar; Greg Dilorenzo and Roxbury High School alum Mark Rufino on bass; and Montclair State University grad Joao Goncalves and Marcus Weiss on saxophone; along with audio mixer and William Paterson University student Michael Pettorini.

    Free Mushmouth concert in Belleville

    Capping Belleville's free outdoor summer concert series, Mushmouth will take attendees on a journey through hits of the '70s, '80s, '90s and beyond at Belleville High School on Thursday. Hear one-hit wonders and hidden gems, note-for-note renditions of songs from Glen Campbell to the Foo Fighters, Duran Duran to Eric Church. Plus, there will be fireworks after the concert.

    Jazz Under the Stars in Englewood

    The Sharp Radway Group will perform on Thursday as part of the Jazz Under the Stars series at Englewood Public Library. The concert is free and open to the public. No registration is required, but library parking is limited. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in September.

    The Kootz concerts in Fair Lawn and Rockaway

    As the finale to the Summer Concert Series presented by the Borough's Recreation and Parks Department, the Kootz will perform Thursday at Memorial Park. Bring a lawn chair. Seating will be in the parking lot of the park. Then, on Friday the band will make its debut at the Rockaway River Barn. The band plays a musical menu of classic '60s-through-'90s pop, rock, R&B and blues - self-described "rock n' roll with fiber."

    Fillet of Soul concert in Hackensack

    This funk/soul band will lay down '70s and '80s hits from artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, O'Jays and Al Green on Saturday. The group consists of four singers projecting soulful melodic leads with blended background harmonies. The instrumental section is made up of drums, bass, guitar, keys and horns providing the groove.

    Sussex County Miners baseball

    The Miners are at home at Skylands Stadium this weekend for three games against the Tri-City Valley Cats, with special themed nights and drink specials all weekend. Friday is Autism Awareness, Saturday is Fan Appreciation Night and Sunday is the season finale. Saturday and Sunday will feature post-game fireworks,

    PRS Music Festival and Rock Steady Crew Legacy Return in Paterson

    Take a deep dive into the history of hip hop in New Jersey and the contributions to the culture as the Puerto Rock Steady festival returns to Hinchliffe Stadium on Saturday, hosted by D-Stroy (Shade 45), comedian Russell Peters and MC Sha-Rock.

    The event will include musical performances by Method Man & Redman, Big Daddy Kane & The Cold Crush Brothers, Jungle Brothers, Furious 5, Lords Of The Underground, Mr Cheeks of the Lost Boyz, Monie Love, Craig G, Rahzel, Supernatural, Gorilla Nems, Lil Dee, Greg Nice, Soul Sonic Force and more. Plus, guest DJs Breakbeat Lou, DJ Skribble, Ted Smooth, G-Bo The Pro, Skeme Richards, DJ Starting from Scratch, DJ Tahleim and The Awesome 2 will be spinning live.

    The National Hip Hop Museum will induct Redman, Method Man, Soul Sonic Force, The Sequence, B-boys Jeffro and Gravity at the festival as well. In addition, there will be immersive experiences celebrating the 4 Elements of Hip Hop: MCs, DJs Sets, Breakdancing and Graffiti; a video presentation of the Global Hip Hop State of the Union Address by KRS One; a live graffiti performance and keynote with Mare139; a new artificial intelligence visual showcase; and more.

    Fireworks and free concert featuring Big Ones

    The Park Ridge Recreation and Cultural Committee presents this event on Saturday. Bring a blanket. No pets allowed.

    Food Trucks, Vendors and Music Festival in Clifton

    On Sunday at the Clifton Municipal Complex, enjoy a fun family day with food trucks from Northern New Jersey; brews at the beer garden; exhibits of local artists; the Kids Fun Zone to promote children's creativity; Christmas Cards to sign for our troops; and musical performances by Swingman and the Misfit Mutts, La Cabinera and Alternate Groove. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Clifton Veterans Committee (Veterans Day parade).

    Pompton Day 2024

    The Borough of Pompton Lakes will host its annual Pompton Day on Sunday along Lakeside Avenue. There will be vendors, food, kids activities, community organizations and clubs, and more.

    Hed P.E., Dizasterpiece, Of the Light, Black Dawn in Clifton

    Hed P.E. is promoting its new album, "Detox;" Dizasterpiece is a hip-hop emcee from New Jersey with roots in the punk and hardcore community; Of the Light is art metal/rock music; and Black Dawn is a hard rock/metal band from Long Island. The four bands will share the stage at Dingbatz on Sunday.
