Another Big Preseason Honor for Star Clemson Defender

A star Clemson defender was selected to the preseason Associated Press All-America team , which was announced Monday.

Tigers senior linebacker Barrett Carter was named to the AP Preseason All-America first-team.

It’s the latest in a long list of preseason accolades for Carter, who also recently earned first-team preseason All-American honors from ESPN , as well as second-team preseason All-American honors from CBS Sports.

Among other honors Carter has collected ahead of the upcoming campaign, he was pegged as a preseason All-American by Phil Steele earlier this summer, named preseason All-ACC by Athlon Sports , named a preseason Walter Camp All-American and selected to the All-ACC preseason team by credentialed media at the ACC Football Kickoff last month.

Additionally, Carter has been named to watch lists for the Wuerffel Trophy (presented annually in recognition of outstanding community service), the Bednarik Award (college defensive player of the year), the Butkus Award (nation’s top linebacker) and the Lombardi Award (most outstanding lineman or linebacker in college football).

As a second-team All-ACC selection in 2023, Carter ranked second on the team in tackles (67) and tallied 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery over 12 games (all starts).

A 2022 All-American, Carter enters the 2024 season credited with 170 tackles (21.0 for loss), 9.0 sacks, 15 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over 38 career games (26 starts).
