An assault suspect who crashed a car into a tree and later died after leading Columbus police on a high-speed chase through South Linden was identified Tuesday by the Franklin County Coroner's Office.

Justin Randolph Moore, 33, of Columbus' Northland area, was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, after crashing into a tree while fleeing from Columbus police. Moore had been wanted for felonious assault in connection with the beating and stabbing of his baby's mother on Aug. 12, court records show.

Moore is accused of beating the woman unconscious and then stabbing her and slashing her across the face when she woke up and tried to calm him down, court records state. He left the residence after stabbing her and Columbus police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Officers looking for Moore found him in the area of East 23rd and Gladstone avenues driving a silver Chevrolet Impala, according to dash camera video obtained by The Dispatch. The officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Moore sped off in the Impala and led officers on a high-speed chase. Dash camera video from a police cruiser shows Moore arriving at a T-intersection in a residential neighborhood, putting the car into reverse and ramming a police cruiser before speeding off again.

Moore continues to lead the officers on a pursuit as he maneuvers through narrow streets and alleyways throughout the residential area, video shows. Other Columbus police officers joined the chase.

The final moments of the pursuit show Moore speeding through an alley behind several homes when he somehow loses control of the Impala and crashes into a tree at East 22nd and Medina avenues. After the collision, over a dozen Columbus police officers arrive and attempt to extract Moore from the car.

Moore was transported in critical condition by Columbus Division of Fire medics to Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

No officers were injured in the chase, including the officers who were in the cruiser that Moore rammed with the Impala.
