    Hy-Vee's plans on hold for new grocery store in Bartlett

    An Iowa-based grocery store chain that was eyeing a Memphis suburb for a possible location might not be going forward with the project.

    A preliminary site plan for a proposed Hy-Vee grocery store at the northeast corner of New Brunswick Road and Old Brunswick Road was approved in December by the City of Bartlett’s Municipal Planning Commission.

    But Bartlett Mayor David Parsons recently said the city has learned from Hy-Vee that the project is on hold as the company re-evaluates its expansion plans with other projects.

    Education news: While four-day school weeks are becoming increasingly common across the United States, they also remain controversial.

    Advocates say the shorter weeks help with recruiting and retaining teachers, giving them more time for things like lesson planning and grading. They can also give students more time for extracurricular activities. Critics say shorter school weeks can cut key instructional time and lead to academic shortfalls, along with creating challenges when it comes to child care and social and emotional development, among other things.
