Dutch Bros Coffee looks to bring drive-thru location to Schilling Farms in Collierville

An Oregon-based coffee company is eyeing a Memphis suburb for a potential location at a major mixed-use development.

A preliminary site plan for a proposed 1,027-square-foot drive-thru Dutch Bros Coffee shop in Schilling Farms was approved by the Collierville Planning Commission during its Thursday meeting. The plan will now go in front of the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for approval during its Sept. 23 meeting.

If approved, it would be Dutch Bros Coffee's first Memphis-area location.

The coffee shop will be located west of Schilling Boulevard East and on the south side of Poplar Avenue, according to staff reports.

The proposed location will include two drive-through lanes that will be accessed by both Poplar Avenue and Schilling Boulevard East. It will also include a walk-up window for customers but no indoor seating.

What is Dutch Bros Coffee?

Dutch Bros Coffee was established in 1992 by Dane and Travis Boersma, who both left the dairy industry to begin the venture. The business started as a pushcart in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon.

Dutch Bros Coffee’s menu features coffees, teas, seasonal and energy drinks, smoothies, shakes and snacks.

Alissan Speidel, an external communications representative for Dutch Bros Coffee, said the company has 940 locations, including 13 in Tennessee. Roughly 40 employees are hired for each location.
