Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will miss the 2024 season with a broken ankle, Gators coach Billy Napier announced Monday. Lyons was injured during the Gators' first scrimmage of fall camp. He was carted off the field with his leg in an air cast, 247Sports reported. "Jamari's one of our best. He really cares. It was really inspirational to some degree. The entire team was on the field, which I've never seen that in my entire coaching career," Napier told reporters. "We got all 132 on the spot there to support him as he was carried off the field, so I think that's an indicator that these guys are doing something right, you know, that there is that type of connection to some degree." The redshirt sophomore appeared in all 12 games (one start) in 2023 and finished with 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-4 Lyons was a four-star recruit out of Melbourne, Fla., in the Class of 2022. The Gators open against No. 19 Miami at home on Aug. 31. --Field Level Media
