Daily Briefing: Property values on the rise across Louisville

By Keisha Rowe, Louisville Courier Journal,

    2024-05-16

Good morning and happy Thursday. (You can read today's eNewspaper here.)

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville, we're expected to have patchy fog for the morning commute before switching to mostly sunny skies for the majority of the day. We're expected to see a high around 80.

Here are this morning's top stories so far:

Property values on the rise: Homeowners from NuLu to Jeffersontown are experiencing a bit of sticker shock as new data shows their median assessed property values have risen nearly 30% since 2021, which will translate to bigger tax bills near the end of the year.

The uptick locally follows a national trend which has seen home prices rise sharply in recent years thanks to demand for houses exceeding supply, fueling the rise in assessed values. The new values, however, are still on par with other recent assessments, except for the 2023 assessment of West End neighborhoods, Old Louisville and the Central Business District, which saw assessed values increase by more than 60%.

Read more about the new assessments and how you can appeal your own through our story from growth and development reporter Matt Glowicki.
