IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon comes to Louisville this weekend. What to know about road closures

The IRONMAN 70.3 is taking over Louisville Sunday and city residents are on the triathlon path.

Starting with a 1.2-mile swim in the Ohio River at 7 a.m. , participants will transition into a 56-mile bike ride along River Road and Oldham County before running a half marathon along the river and through city parks, finishing downtown at Fourth Street Live.

Due to the race, many roads in and around Louisville and Oldham County will be closed or under detour this weekend. Here's what we know.

Bike course road closures

No parking is permitted in the following areas from Friday-Sunday.

• River Road from Witherspoon Street to Frankfort Avenue from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Jefferson Street from Third to First avenues from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• First Avenue ( KY 53 ) from Jefferson to Madison streets from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Bike course traffic delays

• River Road from Frankfort to Zorn avenues from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• River Road from Zorn Avenue to U.S. Route 42 from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• US 42 from River to Rose Island roads ( KY 3222 ) from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• US 42 from Rose Island Road to North Highway 393 ( KY 393 ) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• North Highway 393 from US 42 to Poplar Plains Road ( KY 156 ) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Jefferson Street ( KY 146 ) from North Highway 393 to South Highway 53 ( KY 53 ) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• South Highway 53 from Jefferson Street to US 42 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• US 42 from South Highway 53 to North Highway 393 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Run course road closures

Parking will not be permitted on the following roads from Friday-Sunday:

• Witherspoon Street from Second Street to Adams Street from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Adams and Spring Streets from Witherspoon Street to Lexington Road from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Lexington Road from Spring Street to Grinstead Drive from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Scenic Loop from Grinstead Drive to Beargrass Road from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Beargrass Road from Scenic Loop to Park Boundary Road from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
