    Trinity football wins state championship rematch and more Week 1 KHSAA scores, highlights

    In a rematch of last year’s Class 6A championship game, the Trinity High School football team emerged victorious once again.

    Sophomore quarterback Zane Johnson threw two touchdown passes and Zach Floyd and Jamaurion Berry both rushed for scores to lead the Shamrocks to a 28-10 victory at Bryan Station on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

    Trinity beat Bryan Station, 41-20, in last year’s final to capture its 28 th state championship .

    “It was a typical first game,” Trinity coach Jay Cobb said after Friday’s victory. “There were enough mistakes to keep us busy for a month. It wasn’t very pretty. We missed a lot of opportunities. … The good news is the score on the scoreboard and the fact that we won.”

    Johnson completed 11 of 21 passes for 174 yards and touchdown passes to Kaleb Warner and Nation Roe-McBroom. Berry carried 13 times for 137 yards.

    Kaleb Washington carried 18 times for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead Bryan Station.

    Trinity is ranked No. 1 in Class 6A in The Courier Journal’s preseason poll of coaches. Bryan Station is No. 6.

    St. Xavier 56, Floyd Central (Indiana) 14

    Junior quarterback Mason Trimble threw three touchdown passes and Manny Gray rushed for three scores to lead the Tigers over the host Highlanders.

    Trimble completed 6 of 8 passes for 151 yards and had touchdown passes of 53 yards to Kyle Krupp, 35 yards to Marlon Harbin and 31 yards to Anthony Barbee.

    Gray carried seven times for 73 yards and scored on runs of 6, 28 and 1 yard. Harbin also had a 38-yard touchdown run.

    Christian Academy 27, Owensboro 17

    Connor Hodge passed for 232 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a score to lead the Centurions over the host Red Devils.

    Hodge completed 18 of 22 passes and also rushed for 99 yards on 18 carries. Trey Cotton had five catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and JaHyde Brown caught six passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.

    Sophomore Garyon Hobbs carried six times for 79 yards.

    CAL is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and Owensboro is No. 5 in Class 5A.

    Oldham County 44, Henry Clay 16

    Derek Dees passed for 232 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for two scores as the Colonels blitzed the Blue Devils in the Mingua Beef Jerky Bowl at Lafayette.

    Dees threw touchdown passes of 44 and 6 yards to Brooks Kightlinger and hit Timothy Rankin for a 19-yard score. Dees also had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs.

    Kightlinger finished with four catches for 81 yards.

    Ryan Giles led Oldham County’s defense with two interceptions, returning one 33 yards for a touchdown that gave Oldham County a 44-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.

    The 44 points marked Oldham County’s largest total since a 45-22 victory over George Rogers Clark on Oct. 22, 2021.

    Collins 35, Shelby County 0

    Kade Goodin passed for 179 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Titans to a victory over the host Rockets.

    Goodin had touchdown passes of 1 yard to Aviyan Delaney, 29 yards to Josh Lainhart and 6 yards to Zaiden Baker.

    Collins also got scores from Marcus Stoner (37-yard interception return) and Jari Hardy (89-yard kickoff return).

    Shelby County managed just 102 total yards (95 passing, 7 rushing).

    Tates Creek 48, Eastern 6

    B.J. Evans carried 15 times for 179 yards and four touchdowns to lead the host Commodores over the Eagles.

    Tates Creek rolled up 411 yards of offense, including 248 on the ground. Darnell Burnside passed for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

    Eastern quarterback Zane Wagner completed 11 of 20 passes for 90 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown pass to Ayden Owens in the first quarter.

    Cincinnati Anderson 51, South Oldham 6

    Justice Burnam completed 12 of 14 passes for 296 yards and five touchdowns to lead the host Raptors over the Dragons.

    South Oldham got a 32-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Arnold to Charlie Temple.

    Cincinnati Taft 43, Pleasure Ridge Park 0

    Aaron Dowdell Jr. scored two touchdowns to lead the Senators over the host Panthers.
