As the head pastor at Rocky Hock Baptist Church, Matt Dupuy strives to make a difference in the lives of his community and congregation.

From weddings and baptisms to funerals, he is present during some of the most impactful moments of people’s lives.

“It is an honor to be a part of people’s lives during those times,” he said.

Dupuy grew up in Louisiana and moved to Yorktown, Va. when he was 11 years old.

“I was very involved in the church growing up,” he said.

Dupuy earned a master’s degree in biblical studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, and he is currently pursuing a doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Dupuy said when preparing for his Sunday sermons he likes to concentrate on Scripture, using expositional teaching to help explain it.

Dupuy is also passionate about music. While he prefers the guitar, he plays multiple instruments.

Dupuy and his three oldest children sing and play beautiful music together at church. Lilly plays the violin, Boaz plays drums and Hosea plays piano.

“I like to modernize hymns while preserving the melody of the original hymn,” Dupuy said.

Dupuy and his wife, Melissa, have two other children: Suzanna and Abraham.

Dupuy is currently getting ready for the Life Action Summit Conference at Rocky Hock Baptist Church from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6.

Dupuy said the group brings their own music and there is something for all ages during the eight-day event.

“They are absolutely fantastic,” he said.

Dupuy said Rocky Hock Baptist Church offers Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. The church also offers an Adult Bible study program, children’s ministry and student ministry at 6 p.m. Sunday nights. A Wednesday Adult Bible Study program is held at 7 p.m.

The church livestreams services that are available on both Facebook and YouTube. For people in local nursing homes who are not able to access the services on Facebook, the church often provides a DVD.
