The Carolina Sports Festival is set to take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Greenville Convention Center showcasing competitions in wrestling, weightlifting and powerlifting.

The festival promises a day of athletic excellence with the NC Hall of Fame Wrestling Tournament, the ECU Open for weightlifting and Powerlifting America’s Carolina Classic.

Competitions start at 9 a.m. with ECU Open Session 1 and the Powerlifting America Session 1. USA Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.

Owner and operator Ahonore Varner, a former ECU football player, said he is excited to bring the event to Greenville.

“As a former ECU football player, it’s a personal joy to contribute to the community that has given me so much,” Varner said. “We aim to make this an annual event, continuously adding more sports and days to the festival, turning it into a five-day celebration of sports and community.”

The event coincides with ECU’s Family Weekend, he said, “and we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the festival before they start tailgating for the football game!”

The festival is expected to feature about 300 athletes accompanied by all their family and friends. Organizers expect a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates sports and community spirit.

Attendees can look forward to high-level competitions, engaging activities and opportunities to connect with local businesses and organizations, Varner said.

Athletes interested in participating can register at carolinasportsfoundation.org/sports-registration.

The event is open to spectators. Tickets are $20 for individuals and $10 for ECU students. Purchase tickets at tinyurl.com/carolina-sports-festival.
