    Events coming up in the Greenville area offer music, arts, theater and family fun. Here is a sampling.

    Collard Festival

    The 50th annual Ayden Collard Festival continues today in downtown Ayden. The event will include a parade, live bands, rides, vendors, a collard eating contest and an art show. Visit aydencollardfestival.com.

    Fisk on Fourth

    The 2024-25 Fisk on Fourth concert season will begin at 7 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 401 E. Fourth St. The opening concert will feature the New Carolina Sinfonia and organist David Baskeyfield performing Poulenc’s Organ Concerto and Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, “Organ.” Suggested donation is $25.     Classic movie

    Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church St., will host Classic Film Club at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The featured film will be “Enter the Dragon” from 1973. The showing is free. Visit farmvillelibrary.org.

    Auditions

    Smiles and Frowns Playhouse will host auditions for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday at Ayden Recreation Center, 4354 Lee St. Visit facebook.com/SmilesandFrownsPlayhouse for a link to schedule an audition.

    Fashion on Display

    Greenville Museum of Art, 802 S. Evans St., will host Fashion on Display from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday. The annual fall fashion show fundraiser will feature the season’s looks provided by local boutiques. Appetizers, cocktails and wine will be available. Cost is $35 for museum members and $45 for others. Visit gmoa.org.

    Bites on the Bridge

    Bites on the Bridge will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Town Common pedestrian bridge, 105 E. First St. The event includes live music, food trucks and a beer garden. Limited seating will be available for dining on the bridge.

    Performing arts series

    The S. Rudolph Alexander Series will begin its new season at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a performance by Duo Exaudi, an award-winning classical guitar duo featuring Belarusian guitarist Elina Chekan and Cuban guitarist Rene Izquierdo. The concert will be held in A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall on campus. Tickets are $40. Visit artscomm.ecu.edu/alexander-series.

    Freeboot Friday

    Freeboot Friday will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Five Points Plaza, at the corner of Fifth and Evans streets. The free event offers live music, children’s activities, arts and crafts, food and adult beverages for those 21 and older. Additional dates are Sept. 27 and Oct. 25.

    Artist reception

    Farmville Community Arts Council will host a reception honoring artist Robin Lynne Haller at 6 p.m. Friday at the Emily Monk Davidson Art Gallery, 3725 N. Main St. The gallery is exhibiting “Being Present,” featuring work by Haller, an artist who specializes in digital design and hand weaving. She is professor and area coordinator of the textile design program at East Carolina University. Visit facebook.com/FarmvilleArts.

    Music series

    The African-American Music Series will begin its fall season with a performance by Michael Friend at 7 p.m. Friday at Emerge Gallery and Art Center, 404 Evans St. There is no admission charge. Visit emergegallery.com.

    Piano trio

    The Music House, 408 W. Fifth St., will host The Calyx Piano Trio at 3 p.m. Sept. 15. The trio, featuring Nina Ferrigno, piano; Catherine, violin; and Jennifer Lucht, cello, will perform a program of Czech chamber music with guest artist Nancy Dimock, principal oboist of the Boston Ballet Orchestra.     Pitt County Fair

    The Pitt County Fair is set for Sept. 17-22 at the fairgrounds, 3910 MLK Jr. Highway. The theme this year is “Bales of Fun.” Entries for the exhibit hall will be accepted 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 and 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15. Visit www.pittfair.org for more information.

    Moonlight hayride

    A Moonlight Hayride and Campfire will take place at 7-8 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. Sept. 17 at River Park North, 1000 Mumford Road, Greenville. The 45-minute moonlit hayride will travel around a 31-acre pond. Participants can roast marshmallows around a campfire upon their return. The fee is $12 per person or $10 for Greenville residents.     Lakeside Live

    Music in the Park

    The May Museum and Park, 3802 S. Main St., Farmville, will host Music in the Park from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 19. The event, featuring music by John & Landy, will include a school supplies drive.     Organ concert

    The East Carolina Musical Arts Education Foundation’s Fisk on Fourth series will present organist David Baskeyfield at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 401 E. Fourth St. The concert will feature a mixed program including music by Rossini, Mozart and Franz Schmidt and concluding with Healey Willan’s “Introduction, Passacaglia and Fuge.” Suggested donation is $20.     Flute performance

    East Carolina University School of Music will present a performance by guest artist Kelariz Keshavarz, flute, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall. Keshavarz, assistant professor of flute at Western Carolina University, will present contemporary music for the flute from Iran and the Middle East. Free. Call 328-6851.     Multicultural Arts Festival

    Emerge Gallery and Art Center will host the inaugural Mosaic Multicultural Arts Festival 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 21 in collaboration with the City of Greenville and other partners at the Town Common, 105 E.     ECU Symphony Orchestra

    Piano performance

    East Carolina University School of Music will present guest artist Benjamin Hochman, piano in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall. The program will include Christopher Trapani Palermo Canons (2021-2024), Beethoven Sonata No. 31 in Ab major, Op. 110 and Diabelli Variations, Op. 120.Free. Call 328-6851.     Fall Scenes

    ECU Opera Theater will hosts Fall Scenes at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 29 in A.J. Fletcher Recital Hal.     School Girls

    ECU/Loessin Playhouse will open the 2024-25 season with “School Girls” (or the African “Mean Girls” play) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in McGinnis Theater on campus. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26-28 and 2 p.m. Sept. 29. Season subscriptions, which include four theater productions and two dance performances, are available for $100 for the general public, $72 for senior adults and $48 for ECU students and youth.     Four Seasons

    Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival will open its 25th anniversary season with a performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in ECU’s A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall. Works from Astor Piazzolla, Edward Elgar and Antonín Dvořák also will be featured. The concert will feature the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra, along with artists Hye-Jin Kim, Ara Gregorian and Xiao-Dong Wang, violin, Thomas Sauer, piano, Maria Lambros, viola and Raman Ramakrishnan, cello.     Murder mystery fundraiser

    Midnight at the Masquerade, a fundraising dinner for the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at Tripp Farms, Tripp Farms Lane. Tickets for the murder mystery dinner are $75. Visit one.bidpal.net/MurderMystery24.

    Auditions

    Farmville Community Arts Council will host auditions for “Deathtrap” and “Miracle on 34th Street” at 6 p.m. Sept. 27-28 and 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Paramount Theatre, 3723 N. Main St., Farmville.
