ADRIAN The Lenawee Community Chorus , at 57 years strong, is Michigan’s oldest continually operating ensemble of its type — a no-audition group composed of local people of all musical backgrounds, ages and abilities who share a common love of coming together and making music.

The community chorus recently announced it is registering singers for its fall season. Ages 16 to 100 are welcome to sign up.

“If you share our love of music, whether you sang in high school, college, church or community choirs, come join us,” the Lenawee Community Chorus said in a news release. “... If you can sing, you are qualified.”

Under the direction of Brad Pierson, registering singers will perform traditional choral pieces, period and regional pieces, arrangements of traditional and folk songs, and new pieces of music written by up-and-coming artists.

The community chorus will be providing light refreshments at a Meet and Greet Social, beginning at 7 p.m. Sept. 4. Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday nights, the first being Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. Both events — the planned social night and the opening rehearsal — will be held at the chorus’ rehearsal space located at Father Williams Hall, 425 Ormsby St., on St. Joseph’s Catholic Church campus in Adrian. Parking is available in the lot at the intersection of Finch and Butler streets. Guests are asked to enter the rear of the building and take the elevator to the top floor.

The Lenawee Community Chorus is scheduled to present its 57th annual holiday concert titled “Winter Winds” at 3 p.m. Dec. 15, at Herrick Chapel on the campus of Adrian College . Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults, free for students and children, are available for purchase at the door the night of the concert, and they can be bought online at lenaweecommunitychorus.com .

    About the Lenawee Community Chorus

Rehearsals at Father Williams Hall are generally two hours each week from 7 to 9 p.m. The Lenawee Community Chorus’ season runs from September through April.

“We focus on learning new literature, improving vocal skills, sharing a love of vocal music, and welcoming new members and collaborative opportunities,” the release said.

According to chorus soprano Nicole Schall-Plotner, “I moved back home to Adrian after living in Chicago for 20 years. This is a great group to be a part of. We come together each week to put in hard work making music but end up gaining new friends.”

Elise Allen, another chorus soprano, said she decided to join the Lenawee Community Chorus in the fall of 2021 because she likes making music. Allen was involved in choir from the sixth grade until her senior year of college. She spent a few years away from choir performances after college but has since found her way to the Lenawee Community Chorus.

“Singing is something I have enjoyed from a young age, and this was a way for me to continue doing it,” she said. “The experience has been great overall. I have enjoyed meeting new people and making great music with them.”
