    Iowans Fitzpatrick, Meyer win gold medals in Paralympics wheelchair basketball

    Iowans AJ Fitzpatrick and Jeromie Meyer won gold medals Saturday as members of the U.S. wheelchair basketball team at the Paralympics in Paris.

    Team USA won gold with a 73-69 win over Great Britain at Bercy Arena.

    Steve Serio led Team USA with 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Serio said that these would be his final Paralympics. He retires with three Paralympic golds, one bronze and five world championship medals.

    Fitzpatrick (a Cedar Rapids native) and Meyer (of Woodbine) did not play in the gold-medal game.
