PALM DESERT — A hiker was rescued Saturday from an inaccessible area in a Palm Desert trail, the Riverside County Fire Department announced.

Firefighters responded to a report of someone experiencing an unspecified medical emergency at The Cross Trail around 10:40 a.m. Saturday.

The hiker was airlifted by a Riverside County Sheriff's Department rescue helicopter and taken to an awaiting ambulance.

In another incident, a second hiker was rescued from a trail near Temescal Valley Saturday, the Riverside County Fire Department announced.

Firefighters from the RCFD and the Corona Fire Department responded to a report of a person with a lower extremity injury at the Main Divide Truck Trail on Saturday morning.

The Corona FD was able to reach the patient using a utility terrain vehicle, and a sheriff's rescue helicopter airlifted the patient to an awaiting ambulance.

The hiker's condition was not immediately known.

The hiker rescues came as the National Weather Service was expected to begin issuing heat advisories through the weekend of Labor Day.

Palm Springs area weather forecast for Labor Day weekend

In the Coachella Valley, weekend highs will register around 110. There is a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms in the Coachella and Palo Verde valleys over the weekend, but probably not after Monday, forecasters said.

On Sunday, temperatures were expected to rise by a few degrees throughout the county. A few degrees of cooling is expected in the deserts on Labor Day due to the possibility of an influx of monsoonal moisture, the NWS announced. However, the Riverside metropolitan area was expected to reach 101 and the Temecula Valley was expected to reach 97 by Labor Day.
