With concerns about extreme heat in the Coachella Valley swirling around athletic events this week, the College of the Desert football team became the latest postponement.

In a statement from COD, the school announced that Saturday's season-opening game against Glendale College has been postponed. Both heat protocols and the field condition of Boone Field at College of the Desert were cited.

More: Tommy Ansley, other local football players, will lead College of the Desert this season

"The only rescheduled dates for hosting the Glendale Vaqueros would be October 12 at 6 p.m. or November 23 at 1 p.m.," the statement read. "A decision has yet to be made on which date will be selected. This decision was made mutually by both colleges to ensure the well-being of all participants. "

With the postponement, the Roadrunners will open their home schedule on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. against Los Angeles Pierce at Boone Field.
