The new season is here.
Fans can now vote for the first Times-Union Athlete of the Week for the 2024-25 high school sports season, covering the week of Aug. 19-24 in the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida area.
The weekly vote recognizes top performances across high school sports around Northeast Florida, from football to cross country to swimming to golf to bowling to volleyball.
Each week, the Times-Union compiles votes from across the region. A new winner is announced in the Times-Union each Monday.

This week's vote
The Times-Union gathers nominees from scores, stats and nominations e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across Northeast Florida. Coaches can e-mail these stats and scores to preps@jacksonville.com.
This week's voting begins Monday morning and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Vote at jacksonville.com/sports .
We reserve the right to disqualify a candidate or declare a vote "no contest" if tampering such as bots or offering to pay for voting is evident. Please respect the integrity of the vote the way these athletes respect the integrity of the game.

Northeast Florida Athlete of the Week poll for Aug. 19-24 Jaden Boyd, Middleburg football
The senior defensive back returned a blocked field goal for a 65-yard touchdown and intercepted a pass to help the Broncos shut out Westside 13-0.
Owen Finn, Episcopal boys swimming
The junior won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly while helping the Eagles win their opening meet against St. Johns Classical.
Katie Issendorf, Fletcher volleyball
The senior outside hitter recorded 39 kills with a .382 hitting percentage as the Senators defeated Fleming Island and St. Augustine.
Alyson Johnson, Creekside girls cross country
The junior ran 18 seconds flat to win the Cecil Field Summer Classic, and also helped the Knights to the team championship.
Jeremiah Kes, St. Joseph football
The senior receiver caught six passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns, plus an interception on defense, in the Flashes' 42-6 win over Cedar Creek Christian.
Tyler Mawhinney, Fleming Island boys golf
The reigning state champion junior shot a 64 for medalist honors at the Back to School Invitational.
Jack Reich, Nease boys cross country
The senior won the individual race at the Spikes & Spurs Classic in 16:54, and led Nease to a first-place team finish.
