On Labor Day weekend, the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation will host an outdoor festival involving a floating concert, guided hiking, and other festivities.

The organization created Fork Fest last year to raise funds for the South Fork Collective, a group of nonprofits, businesses, and municipalities working together to improve water quality, increase flood resiliency, and promote recreation on the South Fork.

The two-day event included all the typical aspects of a summer music festival one would expect to find and then some, according to Catawba Riverkeeper Executive Director John Searby.

Searby said in a previous interview about Fork Fest that they also wanted to stand out from the average music festival.

So, they put together a floating concert featuring the band Hiram, which was the only one of its kind in the Southeast to their knowledge.

This year’s event, happening Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, will also feature a floating concert.
