    Devils Dust Chiefs In Region Opener

    ROGERSVILLE — The Greeneville Greene Devils overpowered the Cherokee Chiefs 46-0 in the Region 1-4A opener for both on Friday night.

    The Devils improve to 2-1 overall, while the Chiefs drop to 2-1.

    Greeneville jumped to an 18-0 lead after one quarter and led 39-0 at halftime before pulling their starters in the second half.

    Greeneville junior quarterback Caden Baugh completed six of nine passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for 101 yards and two TDs on eight carries.

    In Greeneville's three games this season, Baugh has completed 18 of 29 passes for 361 yards and three TDs with one interception. He's also carried the ball 27 times for 388 yards and six TDs.

    Senior running back Carson Quillen ran for 73 yards and three TDs on eight carries, all in the first half.

    For the season, Quillen has rushed for 349 yards and eight TDs on 35 carries.

    Junior receiver Zaydyn Anderson caught two passes for 85 yards and a TD, all in the first half.

    For the season, Anderson has eight catches for 223 yards and two TDs.

    The Greene Devils took advantage of the lopsided score on Friday night to get a lot of players touches.

    Sophomore backup quarterback Kaine Ricker completed all three passes he threw for 33 yards, and he also ran for 9 yards on three carries.

    Sophomore receiver Taren Claridy had two catches for 31 yards, junior tight end Colton Smith had two catches for 27 yards, junior receiver Cole Franklin had two catches for 21 yards, and freshman receiver Michael Hurst had a catch for 6 yards.

    Seven Greene Devils got carries out of the backfield.

    In addition to Quillen, Baugh and Ricker, junior Maddox Bishop carried twice for 15 yards and a TD, Anderson carried once for 28 yards, and junior Dion Phipps and sophomore Jude Dyer each carried once for 3 yards.

    Junior kicker Samuel Gourley was good on four of six PATs.

    Greeneville finished with 402 yards offense, 319 in the first half. The Devils held Cherokee to 157 yards, 75 in the first half.

    Cherokee quarterback Landon Jeffers completed nine of 18 passes for 84 yards and was intercepted three times. He also led the Chiefs in rushing with 46 yards on 10 carries.

    Quillen scored Greeneville's first TD on an 8-yard run at the 10:33 mark of the first quarter.

    At the 7:25 mark of the first, Baugh connected with Anderson on a 38-yard TD pass. And Baugh closed the scoring in the first quarter with a 15-yard run at the 2:01 mark that made it 18-0.

    Greeneville scored three TDs in the second quarter – a 50-yard run by Baugh at the 11:38 mark, a 44-yard run by Quillen at the 8:03 mark and a 2-yard run by Quillen with 26 seconds to play in the half for the 39-0 halftime lead.

    The Greene Devils got their final score at the 3:43 mark of the third on a 17-yard run by Bishop.

    Greeneville will play at Class 3A state power Alcoa (1-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Tornadoes lost 27-17 to Class 6A Ravenwood in their season opener on Aug. 23 at home, won 24-22 at Class 6A Bearden on Aug. 30 and had their open date on Friday night.
