    Tiverton Farmers Market End of Summa Sizzla

    Celebrate the turn of the season in style, with Tiverton Farmers Market’s End of Summa Sizzla on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    This event will be a salute to all things grilled. Enjoy a wide variety of meats, seafood, fresh vegetables, and fruits. There will be something for everyone, with a selection of vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options.

    Willie T & Doctor X will be providing music for the event.

    The Sizzla will be held at the market’s summer location, the Tiverton Town Farm Recreation Area, 3588 Main Road.

    This event is sponsored by The Bay Magazine, and attendees can pick up the latest issue at the market table.

    The market is free and open to the public, with free parking available in the back lots. Follow the parking signs. If needed, overflow parking will be available in the north lot near the playground.

    Zeiterion Performing Arts Center launches Beyond100 campaign with Raise the Roof party

    Everyone is invited to join the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in kicking off their Beyond100 campaign to restore and renovate the Z.

    On Thursday, Sept. 19, they'll be hosting a fundraiser: a Raise the Roof party at Cisco Brewers, 1482 E. Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford.

    The party will be from 6 to 10 p.m., and will feature live music, dancing, roving entertainers, and fun activities for kids.

    This will be the public launch for the Z's Beyond100 fundraising campaign. Look out for performances by Boston-based East Coast Soul, close-up magic, circus acts, face painting, puppet making, and more.

    The Raise the Roof party will take place at Cisco's waterside outdoor area. Cisco's food and beverages will be available for purchase.

    In case of inclement weather, the rain date for this event is Thursday, Sept. 26.

    Free transportation by Reliable Bus Lines will be available from downtown New Bedford to Cisco. A shuttle will leave every 30 minutes from the DeMello International Center parking lot, starting at 5:15 p.m. The last departure from Cisco will be at 10 p.m. Register in advance at Zeiterion.org .

    To cover the cost of the event, the suggested price is $30 per ticket. Any amount more than $30 supports this project. The minimum per ticket is $10. Kids under 12 are free, and require a ticket.

    Sunset yoga at Sen. Thomas Norton City Pier

    Join Viva Fall River for some free sunset yoga at the Sen. Thomas Norton City Pier, 600 Davol St., Fall River.

    Sunset yoga will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    A local yoga studio will lead the practice.

    Guests should bring a mat, towel and water bottle, and get ready to relax.

    Free concert with Vudu Sister at New Bedford Art Museum

    Gothic folk ensemble Vudu Sister will be performing at the New Bedford Art Museum, 608 Pleasant St., on Friday, Sept. 13.

    This free concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

    Based in Providence, Vudu Sister is fronted by Keith J.G. McCurdy, accompanied by violinist Diane O'Connor, and their songs are inspired by gothic horror, classical mythology, and dark fairy tales.

    Sonata Saturday with New Bedford Symphony Orchestra

    Join the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra for the next Sonata Saturday, on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 5 p.m.

    Held on the fourth Saturday of each month, small groups of NBSO musicians perform at The Drawing Room, 22 William St., New Bedford.

    These events are free and open to the public.

    Tiverton Public Library presents: ‘Larchmont Remembered: The Suffering, Depravity, and Wonder of Rhode Island’s Most Horrific Sea Disaster’

    All are welcome to a free event at the Tiverton Public Library, 34 Roosevelt Ave., on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to discuss the shipwreck of the steamship Larchmont.

    Held at 6:30 p.m., this program will focus on the wreck off the coast of Block Island in February 1907. Most on board were lost, but there were stories of miraculous survival.

    Providence Journal columnist Daniel Harrington will bring you eyewitness accounts, never-before-seen images, and a captivating story.

    AHA to celebrate 25th birthday bash

    On Thursday, Sept. 12, all are invited to celebrate AHA’s 25th anniversary.

    Guests of all ages are welcome to dancing in the streets of New Bedford, live music, a 1990s costume parade, kids’ activities, a pub crawl, circus arts, and birthday cake.

    Block party festivities will kick off at 4 p.m., and will take place in three main “activity zones”: the New Bedford Whaling Museum plaza and parking lot, the Fiber Optic Center’s loading dock on Centre Street, and front and lower Union Street overlooking the waterfront.

    There will also be an after-party, starting at 8 p.m., with Cork Wine & Tapas, Cultivator Shoals, Moby Dick Brewing Co., New Beige, PLAY Arcade, and Rose Alley Tavern.

    Additional programming will be in and around downtown from AHA programming partners, such as Community Weaving with Elaine Alder, who is creating a public sculpture of North Atlantic right whales from marine debris called “The Water We’re Swimming In” in Captain Paul Cuffe Park. They will be joined by a performance by the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.

    There will be wind chime making at the New Bedford Main Library, live music and art at Alison Wells Fine Art Gallery, the public of unveiling of “Catch the Tradition,” the new Fishing Heritage Center art installation, and Five Pillars of Hip Hop at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Garden Museum, featuring live performances and graffiti painting.

    Dramatic reading of ‘Whaling Letters’ at Gallery X

    The Descendants of Whaling Masters will present a dramatic reading of “Whaling Letters” at Gallery X, 169 William St., New Bedford, on Friday, Sept. 13.

    From 7 to 8:30 p.m., guests will be treated to poignant and compelling excerpts from the collection of real-life correspondences between whaling captains and their wives, and other letters that were written back and forth during whaling voyages.

    This dramatic interpretation will be performed by actors in period costume: Paul Sardinha and Lucy Bly.

    General admission is $10 at the door.

    Light refreshments will be served. Books will be available for purchase.

    Unplugged at the Marion Art Center

    Unplugged in the MAC Gallery continues at the Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., on Friday, Sept. 13.

    House regular pianist Matt Richard and trombonist Dr. Michael Rocha will be giving two separate performances, at 7 and 8:15 p.m. Each set will last about 45 minutes.

    Tickets are $12 for MAC members and $15 for non-members.

    Patrons can add on a personal charcuterie box from Savor the Spread, which will be delivered to them during the performance. Boxes contain crackers, cheese, fruit, nuts, and cured meats. A one-person box is $16, a two-person box is $23, and a four-person box is $40.
