    Youth of the Year mentors

    Are you interested in helping teens? Are you gifted in writing resumes, essays and cover letters? The Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington (BGCB) is looking for volunteers 18 years and up to help teens prepare and write a resume, a cover letter, and guide them through the essay writing process. This can be a one-time opportunity, or the same mentors can come in multiple times. Shifts available are for Resume Writing, Sept. 19 from 4:15-5:15 p.m.; Cover Letter Writing, Sept. 26 from 4:15-5:15 p.m.; and Essay Writing, Oct. 3 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Learn more and sign up today at https://tinyurl.com/youth-mentor-volunteers .     World Rivers Day cleanup

    For this World Rivers Day, happening on Sept. 22, spend time giving back by helping clear debris and invasive species along Clear Creek in Switchyard Park. Volunteers 14 years and older are needed between 9 to 11 a.m. Individuals under age 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Participants should wear long-pants, closed-toe shoes, and expect to get wet. On-site training is provided. Interested volunteers must register by Sept. 21.     31st annual Lotus World Music & Arts Festival

    Volunteering with Lotus is a bucket list opportunity. Everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime! Lotus volunteers are the heart of the four-day festival in downtown Bloomington happening Oct. 3 through Oct. 6. Volunteers support everything from loading in and setting up the festival streets and infrastructure to checking wristbands, taking tickets, selling merchandise, and supporting the artists. Festival volunteers receive a free volunteer T-Shirt and button and exchange one night of volunteering for attendance to a Friday or Saturday night of the weekend showcase of music and art.     Community Wish List Spotlight

    Hoosier Hills Food Bank Wish List

    The 40th Annual Community Book Fair, a benefit for Hoosier Hills Food Bank, will take place Oct 17-22 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. This year’s book fair will fill two buildings with over 100,000 books, DVDs, CDs, LPs, games, puzzles and other items at affordable prices to support the food bank’s work. There will be a large selection of children’s books and collectible “Better Books,” which will also include a selection of vintage vinyl LPs. The Hoosier Hills Wish List is looking for donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, records, games and puzzles to include in this year’s book fair.

    Donations : Donations can be made to Hoosier Hills Food Bank located at 2333 W. Industrial Park Drive, Monday through Friday. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They do not accept donations Oct. 1-31. Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 697, Bloomington, IN 47402.
