    State Attorney's Office will offer six-week Citizens Academy starting Sept. 10

    The State Attorney’s Office for the 10 th Judicial Circuit will hold a Citizens Academy beginning Sept. 10. Classes will meet at the State Attorney’s Office in Bartow every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for six weeks, concluding with a graduation ceremony on Oct. 15.

    This in-depth academy provides a unique look at the criminal justice system from the perspective of a prosecutor, the office said in a news release. Participants who are selected from a competitive application process will have the opportunity to hear directly from subject matter experts at the State Attorney’s Office.

    Topics covered during the academy include the criminal justice system , the jury trial process, homicide investigations, crimes against children, vehicular crimes, cyber-crimes and more.

    Applicants must be at least 18 years old and will be subjected to a limited background check of criminal history and warrant information. The information will not be used for any other purposes or shared with any other persons or entities, the release said. Class size will be limited to 20 people.

    Applications can be found at www.sao10.com/about-us/citizens-academy . The application deadline is Aug. 30. Those who are accepted will receive official notice through email.
