    Storm Debby to hit Charlotte with flash floods after NC man found dead inside home crushed by tornado

    The death toll from Storm Debby has risen to at least seven after a North Carolina man was found dead among the rubble inside house cause by a devastating tornado , with the region set for further dangerous weather .

    A FEMA incident support team, along with another search crew, scrummaged through debris i n search of the Lucama resident, according to Wilson County Communications director. The two-story home was only one of at least 10 residences pummeled by the tornado overnight.

    Individuals of the surrounding community were reportedly seen looking panicked as they searched for their neighbor. The natural disaster also tore though Springfield Middle School on Wiggins Mill Road, officials said the building was destroyed .

    At least seven people have died due to the storm, five of them in traffic accidents or from fallen trees. The sixth death involved a 48-year-old man in Gulfport, Florida, whose body was recovered after his anchored sailboat partially sank.

    The worst may have yet to come as Tropical Storm Debby is poised to brings intense floods and heavy rainfall to a large portion of North Carolina and Charlotte as impacts will peak today. The heaviest rainfall is forecast for tomorrow, bringing wind gusts between 30-40 mph, WBTV chief meteorologist Al Conklin said.

    Debby's onslaught kicked off Monday after it made landfall around Florida's Big Bend as a Category 1 hurricane, killing at least seven people, including a 13-year-old boy. "Debby will continue to meander just off the South Carolina coast today before making a landfall just north of Charleston late tonight," Conklin says.

    The powerful storm making its way up the East Coast is being spurred on by climate change, which meteorologists attribute to the record-breaking rainfall that is expected to drench South Carolina and other northern states like Vermont. Some studies suggest these tropical storm are now treading slowly after making landfall compared to decades prior.

    At least four dams were breached northwest of Savannah in Georgia’s Bulloch County, but no deaths had been reported, authorities said. More than 75 people were rescued from floodwaters in the county, said Corey Kemp, director of emergency management, and about 100 roads were closed.

    “We’ve been faced with a lot of things we’ve never been faced with before,” Bulloch County Commission Chairman Roy Thompson said. “I’m 78-plus years old and have never seen anything like this before in Bulloch County. It’s amazing what has happened, and amazing what is going to continue to happen until all these waters get out of here.”
